The Department of Veterinary Clinical Science at Louisiana State University invites applicants for two open faculty positions in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. These are tenure or clinical track faculty positions at the rank of assistant or associate or professor. Rank and salary are commensurate with the individuals experience and qualifications.

Job Summary: Provide service for the Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Clinical responsibilities include anesthesia support for the small, large, and zoo-exotic animal services within the teaching hospital, and participation in after-hours back-up emergency service. Clinical responsibilities will be shared with other members of the anesthesia service (total of 5 anesthesiologists, 7 technicians, and up to 2 residents).

Candidates will also be expected to contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology and teaching of clinical veterinary anesthesia and analgesia to veterinary students. Collaborative and some independent research endeavors are encouraged for clinical-tracks and required for tenure-track. Strong people skills and team approach towards practicing veterinary medicine is required.

The LSU-SVM has a strong research base in veterinary and biomedical sciences with numerous opportunities for collaborations, both clinical and bench-top research projects. The SVM is the largest NIH funded unit at LSU. We also have a research office for granting and grantsmanship to support our faculty.

Requirements:

- Assistant rank: DVM or equivalent degree with successful completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA or ECVAA) approved residency program. Diplomate status from the ACVAA or ECVAA is preferred, but board-eligible individuals will also be considered.

- Associate or Professor rank: DVM or equivalent degree and Diplomate status from the ACVAA or ECVAA

Candidates with strong teaching ability, advanced degree and/or experience in team research are desired.

LSU is located adjacent to the mighty Mississippi river in the capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge. Approximately 1.5 hours from New Orleans, there is an abundance of music, cultural, and food festivals in the region. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at LSU houses specialty services in the disciplines of anesthesia, emergency and critical care, cardiology, ophthalmology, zoological medicine, oncology, SA and LA internal medicine, dermatology, SA and LA surgery, Farm animal, SA and LA theriogenology,  diagnostic imaging, and integrative medicine and physical rehabilitation.
While medical and radiation oncology are currently housed in a new facility, a brand new hospital is currently being built for the remainder of the specialties in order to house our state-of-the-art equipment. This new hospital will house many outpatient services as well as a brand new clinical skills lab space.

The School of Veterinary Medicine has also invested in teaching. Our students and faculty now have a brand new modern open floor plan library with many conference rooms that is one of the jewels in our crown. Additional recent constructions include the years 1, 2, and 3 classrooms, as well as a large modern multipurpose lab used by instructors for a variety of teaching purposes including clinical skills.
