Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology

SALARY: Dependent on qualifications and experience
START DATE: January 2, 2022 (negotiable)

QUALIFICATIONS: Veterinarian with advanced training in anesthesiology.  Board eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia or the European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia is required; board certification is preferred. Clinical experience and competence in veterinary anesthesiology is required. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching is required. Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in California is required before employment (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857).  Individuals not eligible for a full California license must obtain a University License (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) by the time of appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical:  The position has a 75% clinical commitment to the Anesthesiology Service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), including night and weekend coverage, shared with other anesthesiologists and 5 anesthesia residents. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students, house officers and technicians; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Teaching:  The primary teaching responsibility will be direct daily supervision and instruction of senior students and house officers rotating through the Anesthesiology and Community Surgery services.  Other responsibilities (approximately 15% time) will include:  1) participation in lectures and/or laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; and 2) participation in all aspects of the didactic and clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH.

Professional Competence: Advance the discipline within the VMTH, as well as locally and nationally, through participation and leadership in providing high quality patient care in the hospital environment. Expected to establish a reputation for clinical excellence locally, regionally and nationally. Must demonstrate clinical competence and be recognized for accomplishment in a focused area of clinical practice.

Creative Scholarship: While creative scholarship is an expectation, it is typically derived from clinical teaching and professional service activities for this series. Examples of activities qualifying as creative scholarship include participation in the advancement of professional education; publication of case reports or clinical reviews; development of or contributions to administration (supervision) of a clinical service; or development of or contributions to clinical guidelines or pathways.

Service:  University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required.
