Small Animal Internal Medicine – Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University, invites applications for a position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. The position is available at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank depending on qualifications and experience. The position is in the Health Programs Faculty Appointment System (HP) which is unique to Michigan State University Colleges of Human, Osteopathic, Veterinary Medicine, and Nursing. It was specifically created to enhance clinical education, patient care services, and clinical research. The successful candidate's responsibilities will include clinical service, house office training, didactic and clinical instruction of DVM students, research and other scholarly activities. Clinical service assignment is negotiable but anticipated to be at least 50 to 60%.

Applicants must have a DVM, VMD or equivalent degree and be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Michigan. The appointment requires board certification, or eligibility for certification, by the ACVIM (SAIM) or ECVIM-CA. In addition to outstanding clinical service, outreach, consultation and case management, excellent communication skills and the ability to work collegially with other faculty and staff are expected.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the existing small animal internal medicine team of 5 internists, 4 medicine residents and dedicated technician support. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides superb facilities, including a special procedures suite devoted exclusively to internal medicine. Our endoscopy equipment includes flexible and rigid HD video endoscopes of all sizes from Storz and Olympus. We also perform transurethral laser lithotripsy and ablation of ectopic ureters with an Odyssey 30 Holmium/YAG laser. The VTH has a linear accelerator with 120 multileaf collimator; radioisotope therapy suites for dogs and cats; a complete array of imaging and interventional modalities including 3-D ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, a 16-slice helical CT scanner, a 70 cm bore 1.5 Tesla onsite MRI, and access to PET CT. The VTH is staffed by board-certified specialists in anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine/critical care, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care (ABVP), radiation oncology, surgery, and zoo and wildlife medicine. Additional support services include acupuncture, behavior, dentistry, interventional radiology, nutrition, physical rehabilitation, veterinary social work program, and a mobile hospice service. The MSU Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (DCPAH), one of the world’s largest full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratories, provides laboratory support for patient care as well as collaborative research projects. Ample opportunities for collaborative research exist throughout the College and University.
