Faculty Position in Equine Orthopedic Surgery

The Ohio State University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Equine Orthopedic Surgery. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in clinical service, research, and teaching. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty certification or credentials meeting all requirements for certification by the ACVS or ECVS is required. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable.

The successful candidate will join a distinguished equine surgery program that includes five ACVS diplomates and three surgery residents, in addition to internal medicine, emergency/critical care, and equine field services (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/clinical-services-horse-owners). The Galbreath Equine Center has state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including a high-speed treadmill, linear accelerator, nuclear scintigraphy, 128-slice CT, and 3T MRI. Clinical responsibilities include providing the highest level of surgical service to the clients of the Veterinary Medical Center and concurrent instruction of equine orthopedic surgery to professional students, interns, and residents. Other teaching responsibilities include lectures, labs, and clinical teaching of equine surgery and surgical principles. Sponsored research is expected, and clinical research, publications and other scholarly activity are expected and encouraged. The successful applicant will be given at least 50% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing an extramurally-funded research program that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be an independent investigator within the comparative orthopedic research laboratory. A 1,100 square feet BSL2 laboratory space (that includes a GLP facility for cell-based therapies) fully equipped to conduct translational orthopedic research is available to the successful candidate. In addition, the successful candidate will integrate into the College’s emerging signature program, Consortium for Advancement of Neuro-Musculoskeletal Locomotion (CANSL - https://vet.osu.edu/signature-programs/neurmusculoskeletal-1), led by small and large animal orthopedic surgeons for collaborative research within the college, Center for Clinical and Translational Science (https://ccts.osu.edu) and College of Medicine’s Dept. of Orthopedics and Biomedical Engineering (https://bme.osu.edu/research). Opportunities also exist for faculty to develop collaborative research with scientists in the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Every faculty member is expected to participate in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. There is a mentoring program for new faculty members to support their academic development as teachers and investigators.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences supports a faculty of over 70 clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students.
