The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for two full-time
faculty
positions
(clinical-track
or tenure-track)
in Small Animal Oncology at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in scholarship, patient management, client service and clinical teaching. Specialty board certification (ACVIM
or ECVIM) is required. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates. The candidate will join the Integrated Oncology Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
which
is comprised
of
seven
faculty (two surgical oncologists, three medical oncologists and two radiation oncologists), a surgical oncology fellow, six residents (four medical oncology residents, one
rotating surgery resident and one radiation oncology resident), two interns (one surgical oncology and one medical oncology),
and
five
technicians. The Integrated Oncology service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center Hospital for Companion Animals, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including diagnostic imaging
(3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT) and advanced stereotactic radiation therapy (Siemens Oncor linear accelerator with 160 leaf MLC). Our goal is to build upon current success, and to augment and advance the clinical, research and
teaching components of the Integrated Oncology Service. To this aim in addition to this advertised position within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, The College of Veterinary Medicine is currently hiring at least 3 additional research scientists
with dedicated interest in oncology.
Clinical-track
candidates
will
be
assigned
up to
75% time
in
clinics,
including
clinical
teaching
of students
and advanced
training of
interns
and
residents.
Sponsored
research
is
not required
for
clinical
track
faculty,
yet
clinical
research, publications
or other
scholarly
activities
to advance
clinical
veterinary
medicine
are
expected
and
encouraged. Tenure-track faculty will be given at least 50% off-clinic time to meet
expectations for developing an extramurally funded research program that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, active participation in the Blue Buffalo
Clinical Trials (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/cto) program is expected. Clinical responsibilities include patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents.
It is expected that this person would work within the integrated medical, surgical and radiation oncology program collaborating with faculty in each of these areas. The candidate is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload through the delivery of efficient
and effective service to clients, exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners, and the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care. Teaching responsibilities include didactic teaching in core and elective courses as appropriate
in the preclinical years in the professional curriculum and in resident graduate MS and PhD degree courses. It is expected that the faculty member will actively participate in clinical teaching of oncology and related topics to 4th year professional
students, interns, and residents. Faculty will oversee and mentor residents and students in the graduate MS and PhD degree program that incorporates both clinical training and comparative/translational research. Participation in continuing education events
and outreach activities for the animal-owning public and private practitioners is expected. The faculty member will participate in administrative service within the integrated oncology section and like all faculty, it is expected that the selected candidate
become involved with committee service and curriculum development.

Oncology has been identified as a Signature Program in the CVM and is an essential specialty within the VMC. The Oncology Signature Program is comprised of multiple components including clinical specialties and expertise in medical, surgical
and radiation oncology, collaborative basic and translational research efforts, and strategic partnerships with the OSU Medical Center, The James Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
supports a faculty of >70 clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The College of Veterinary Medicine (www.vet.osu.edu)
