The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University invites applications for a Health Programs (Clinical Track) faculty position in Large Animal Surgery. Required qualifications include DVM or equivalent degree and competency in large animal surgery and emergency medicine. Diplomate status or eligibility for Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (or equivalent) is desirable. The position is a multi-year renewable appointment available at the Assistant Professor rank.
The successful applicant will have an awareness and proficiency in the surgery and emergency care of all large animal species and will be joining a hospital team of 4 ACVS, 2 ACVIM and 1 ACVSMR faculty, 3 of whom are also board certified American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Facilities include a fully equipped Veterinary Teaching Hospital with 24-hour certified technical staff, and the Matilda Wilson Pegasus Critical Care and Isolation Facility for large animal patients. The hospital caseload is predominantly equine but includes all large animal species The primary responsibilities of this position are: 1) Shared primary duty for daytime clinical surgery service with shared emergency service during evenings, weekends and holidays. 2) Didactic, laboratory and clinical instruction to veterinary students and residents; 3) Pursuit of scholarship in support of the Department’s mission to create a renowned scholarly community. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with other faculty members and staff.
