Director and Associate or Full Professor, UTIA Genomics Center for the Advancement of Agriculture

The University of Tennessee, Institute of Agriculture is embarking on a multimillion dollar investment to establish the UTIA Genomics Center for the Advancement of Agriculture and is seeking an accomplished Associate/Full Professor to serve as the Director of the Genomics Center. The successful candidate should be a nationally / internationally renowned individual. Qualified candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree(e.g. DVM).

This position will be a shared appointment with major responsibility to the College of Veterinary Medicine and AgResearch with a minor appointment in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The Associate/Full Professor and Director should have a personal interest in beef cattle genetics/genomics, but will be expected to lead the Center to the inclusion of all faculty working with genomics in the advancement of agriculture.  

The successful candidate is expected to be an authority in genomic science with a focus on advancement of beef cattle and capable of leading a beef genomics centric research program with sustainable extramural funding, maintain a high level of scholarly productivity, and have international recognition. This individual will lead the hiring of support faculty and staff to advance genomic research. The Genomics Center will create an interdisciplinary and collaborative resource for current and future faculty with genomics research interests. 

The Associate/Full Professor and Director will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, individually and through an Advisory Board, to ensure that applied research meaningfully advances agriculture in Tennessee and globally. As part of the Genomic Center’s mission, the faculty involved in genomics research would be expected to develop a genomic science graduate program, provide a vibrant student research experience in the laboratory and field settings, work with other faculty to develop advanced graduate, veterinary and undergraduate curricular offerings, and promote undergraduate student engagement in genomics research. The Genomics Center is expected to create a collaborative environment of current and future faculty with graduate students, staff, and laboratory resources. 

The UTIA Genomics Center for the Advancement of Agriculture is an Institute wide inclusive program lead through both dedicated and shared resources from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Research, College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and Agricultural Extension. The four Deans leading these mission areas are committed to the establishment of a new, internationally recognized program and will ensure that resources are provided to promote success. As part of this commitment, close engagement with industry leaders including producers, producer organizations, technology companies, allied genetics companies, and government agencies will be sought. The Director will chair an advisory board of internal and external stakeholders to ensure advancement and relevance of the Center.
