The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Small Animal Medicine.  This position is a Clinical Track appointment with the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level.  Our departmental faculty include specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and primary care.  We are developing an emergency medicine-critical care program.

 

The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching, service and scholarly missions of the college.   The primary job responsibility will be to provide service and instruction within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.   The successful candidate will provide and supervise clinical care delivered by students, interns, and residents assigned to the internal medicine service as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians. Support of our after-hours emergency service will be shared with other internists.   The successful applicant is also expected to participate in didactic and laboratory instruction of veterinary students within a dynamic and interactive new curriculum.  Duties will include participation in all aspects of training interns, residents, and graduate students.  The remaining effort allocation of the applicant is focused on research and scholarly activity.  Development of an independent research program is possible, but not required.  The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other researchers and contribute to the advancement of the practice of small animal internal medicine.

 

A strong interest in teaching, collaborative research, and interest in fostering diversity in the curriculum and department are very desirable. The successful candidate would have opportunities to collaborate with faculty in Blacksburg as well as with a multi-disciplinary team in a new Comparative Oncology Research Center (CORC) that will be located within Virginia Tech’s Health Sciences and Technology (HST) building in Roanoke VA.  This facility is planned to open in the fall of 2019.

 

Required Qualifications:

•             DVM or equivalent degree. Employer will accept degree that is equivalent to DVM or foreign equivalent of DVM.

•             Successful completion of an approved residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine  (ACVIM) and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine  (ECVIM-CA).

•             Must have a criminal background check.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

•             Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine  (ACVIM) subspecialty of small animal internal medicine and/or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine  (ECVIM-CA).

•             Clinical experience. 

•             Experience in teaching.

•             Track record of scholarly activity.

•             Good interpersonal skills and team player.
