The Department of Clinical Sciences at the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a clinical track faculty member in the field of Behavioral Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent degree. Residency training, (or equivalent experience) in veterinary behavior and board certification or eligibility for the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB) exam is required. Clinical experience in companion animal veterinary behavior is required. Candidates must meet requirements for faculty or regular veterinary licensure in North Carolina.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching DVM students and clinical experience with canine and feline species are required; experience with other species will be considered.
Responsibilities:
This clinical assistant professor position resides in the Department of Clinical Sciences as a contributing member of the Multispecies Medicine Section (MSM), with duties within the Behavioral Medicine Service (BMS) in the NCSU Veterinary Hospital.
The selected candidate will: 1) Provide high quality effective and efficient patient care for but not necessarily limited to dogs and cats. Clinical responsibilities will entail all the duties associated with case management (client and referral veterinarian communication, development of a diagnostic and treatment plan, interpretation of diagnostic findings, implementation of a treatment plan, development of a home care plan, and fiscally responsible case management). 2) Facilitate collaboration and cooperation between the BMS faculty, house officers, and staff, and other components of the MSM and DOCS. 3) Provide efficient hospital management for the BMS including case & personnel scheduling, interaction with other hospital services, caseload promotion, development of service-specific SOPs, and cross training veterinarians and technicians in modern behavioral handling and management throughout the NC State Veterinary Hospital. 4) Provide high quality clinical teaching for veterinary students and house officers, including house officers in other specialty services. 5) Select and mentor resident(s) in the ACVB-approved residency training program. 6) Assist in oversight, training and mentoring of the clinical technician in the BMS. 7) Assist with teaching selectives, electives, and core DVM course labs and didactic lectures to pre-clinical year DVM students, as requested. 8) The selected individual will be expected to publish clinical reseach. 9) Overall, the individual will be expected to be a positive and active member of the Department, the MSM Section, and the BMS, attending meetings and contributing to problem solving and successful operations of the BMS and the NC State Veterinary Hospital as a whole.
The selected individual will be expected to establish a collaborative and positive relationship with referring veterinarians, and through the provision of excellent service and good communication, continue to attract and build and maintain the BMS case load.
