POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Assistant or Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgical Oncology

           

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in small animal surgical oncology. An applicant must hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS), or must have completed an approved residency and have met the requirements to take the corresponding board exam. Additionally, applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing a surgical oncology fellowship registered with ACVS.  Applicants must be licensed or eligible for regular or special licenses to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.

 

The successful candidate will devote up to 50% time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Clinical duties and continued development of the oncology service will be shared with 3 medical oncologists, 1 radiation oncologist, 3 soft tissue surgeons (non-fellowship trained), and house officers. Clinical responsibilities will include primary management of cases, instruction of veterinary students, mentorship of interns and residents (surgical and oncologic), and participation in after-hours surgical emergency coverage. Additionally, we expect the successful candidate will develop and independent and collaborative research program, focused on the fields of oncology, surgery, and translational biology.  The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching, the development of expertise in novel surgical procedures, and academic service.

 

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a spacious facility with sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment, including two modern digital radiography suites equipped with PACS image storage, eFilm and OrthoviewVet templating software; complete arthroscopy capabilities; two intraoperative fluoroscopy units; surgical microscopy, image-guidance, a cavitronic ultrasonic aspirator, and a 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, and helical tomotherapy unit onsite. In addition, nuclear scintigraphy, force-plate and kinematic gait analysis, and laboratories are available to facilitate development of novel procedures and treatments. The hospital maintains Mimics and Echopixel licenses for three-dimensional reconstruction, with easy access to 3D printers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 50 faculty members in the small animal hospital, and 35 interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department.
