The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical track or tenure track faculty position in Small Animal Oncologic Surgery at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service and clinical teaching. Specialty board certification (ACVS) is required. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates. Fellowship training in surgical oncology is required. The appointee will join the Integrated Oncology Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences which is comprised of seven faculty (one surgical oncologist, four medical oncologists and two radiation oncologists), five residents (four medical oncology residents and one radiation oncology resident), and five technicians. The Integrated Oncology service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center Hospital for Companion Animals, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including diagnostic imaging (3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT) and advanced stereotactic radiation therapy (Siemens Oncor linear accelerator with 160 leaf MLC). Our goal is to build upon current success, and to augment and advance the clinical, research and teaching components of the Integrated Oncology Service.

Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 75% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. The Department and College are particularly interested in developing and advancing the surgical oncology program and the associated Integrated Oncology Service. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, but clinical research, publications and other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track candidates will be given at least 50% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing an extramurally funded research program that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, operative practice labs, and clinical teaching of small animal surgery and related topics to professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The appointee is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients, exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners, and the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care. Participation in continuing education events and outreach activities for the animal-owning public and private practitioners is expected. Like all faculty, it is expected that the appointee become involved with committee service and curriculum development.
