Assistant/Associate Professor in Large Animal Surgery

 

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Blacksburg, VA, seeks and enthusiastic individual to fill an open position in large animal surgery. The strategic goals of the College include increasing clinical case load, providing excellence in teaching in the DVM curriculum, and building the scholarly contributions of the faculty. We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled individual to help us attain these goals and who aspires to join the existing team in driving the large animal surgery program. The hospital caseload is approximately 80% equine and 20% other large animal species (e.g., bovine, small ruminant, camelid, and porcine). The surgery section will include clinical and tenure track faculty with varied individual responsibilities based on professional interest, expertise, and faculty assignment. This is designed to promote excellence in service, teaching, and scholarship, while allowing individual faculty members the opportunity to successfully pursue specific career goals.

Primary job responsibilities will be participation in the clinical large animal surgery service, including clinical instruction, and participation in the emergency service. Other duties include delivery of didactic, laboratory, and small group clinical instruction (including topics regarding small animal, equine, and farm animal species). Additionally, contributions to the college’s outreach and scholarly missions are expected. Scholarly contributions will vary based on position duties and the interests and qualifications of the candidate. The college focus on translational medicine and One Health provides many opportunities for collaborative research, clinical investigation, and other ways of engaging in the scholarly endeavors supporting the university mission.
