College of Veterinary Medicine

Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Small Animal Internal Medicine. The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, invites applications for a tenure- or clinical-track faculty position in small animal internal medicine at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and advanced training in small animal internal medicine.  Board certification or having completed a residency training program accepted by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine is required. Documented research productivity or potential to develop a research program, and participate in collaborative research, is desired. Salary and entry rank will be commensurate with experience level.  Appointment at the associate professor rank requires a minimum of five years of experience in a similar position; appointment at the rank of full professor requires attainment of professor with tenure at an academic institution.

The successful candidate will join three board-certified internists on an internal medicine service designed to have four full-time faculty members.  The service includes three internal medicine residents, rotating interns, and three technicians, one of whom is dedicated to support of the endoscopy suite. The internal medicine service maintains a busy and diverse caseload with ongoing clinical research projects and opportunities for teaching students and house officers.  We employ a complete array of flexible and rigid video endoscopes, utilize in- and out-patient continuous glucose monitoring systems, and manage a radioiodine therapy program for feline hyperthyroidism.  The service enjoys access to vanguard technology in diagnostic imaging, including a 64-slice CT scanner, 3.0 Tesla MRI, digital radiography, ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy, and a dedicated interventional radiology suite.  The Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the clinical faculty moved to a new 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in March 2015. Each specialty has its own dedicated rounds room.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate include clinical service, research, and teaching. Faculty assignment will be based on the interests of the candidate in conjunction with the missions of the internal medicine program. The internal medicine group has individual and collaborative research programs exploring medical interests and the scholarship of teaching. The successful candidate will be welcomed to actively participate in these collaborative efforts and encouraged to establish an independent research program. Shared laboratory space and technical support are provided within the Department. The individual will share responsibilities in clinical service, didactic teaching, and clinical teaching of professional students, interns, and residents.

Applicants should submit: (1) a letter of intent including professional interests and career goals; (2) curriculum vitae; and (3) name, mailing address, and contact information of three references. Consideration of applications will begin February 15, 2016. Application materials received by this date are assured full consideration. The starting date is negotiable; the position is available April 1, 2016.
