The
College
of
Veterinary
Medicine,
University
of Georgia,
invites applications for a tenure- or clinical-track
faculty
position
in small animal internal medicine
at the
rank
of assistant,
associate,
or full
professor.
Candidates
must have a DVM or equivalent degree
and advanced
training
in
small animal internal medicine. Board certification or having completed a residency training program accepted by
the
American
College
of
Veterinary
Internal Medicine or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine
is
required.
Documented
research
productivity
or
potential
to develop
a research
program,
and participate
in
collaborative
research,
is
desired. Salary
and
entry rank
will
be
commensurate
with experience
level. Appointment at the associate professor rank requires a minimum of five years
of experience in a similar position; appointment at the rank of full professor requires attainment of professor with tenure at an academic institution.
The
successful
candidate
will
join
three
board-certified
internists on an internal medicine service designed to have four full-time faculty members. The service includes
three
internal medicine residents,
rotating interns,
and
three technicians,
one of whom is dedicated to support of the endoscopy suite.
The internal medicine service maintains a busy and diverse caseload with ongoing clinical research projects and opportunities for teaching students and house officers. We employ a complete array of flexible and rigid video endoscopes, utilize in- and
out-patient continuous glucose monitoring systems, and manage a radioiodine therapy program for feline hyperthyroidism. The service enjoys access to vanguard technology in diagnostic imaging, including a
64-slice CT scanner,
3.0 Tesla
MRI,
digital
radiography,
ultrasound,
nuclear
scintigraphy,
and a dedicated interventional radiology suite. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the clinical faculty moved to a new 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in March 2015. Each specialty has its own dedicated rounds room.
Responsibilities
of the successful candidate include
clinical
service,
research,
and teaching.
Faculty
assignment
will
be
based
on
the
interests
of
the
candidate
in
conjunction
with
the
missions
of
the
internal medicine program.
The
internal medicine group
has individual and collaborative
research programs exploring medical interests
and the scholarship of teaching. The
successful
candidate
will
be
welcomed
to actively
participate
in
these
collaborative
efforts
and encouraged
to establish
an independent
research
program.
Shared
laboratory
space
and technical
support
are
provided
within
the
Department.
The
individual
will
share responsibilities in clinical service,
didactic
teaching,
and
clinical
teaching of
professional
students,
interns,
and
residents.

The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery consists of 36 faculty members, four administrative staff members, seven research technicians, 23 clinical residents, and 10 clinical interns. The department
has specialties with research, service, and teaching programs in anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and zoological medicine. A community
practice program is located in a stand-alone facility. The department participates in the college-wide M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Members of the department also actively participate in collaborative research efforts with faculty members from other departments
within the College and other colleges on campus, including the College of Pharmacy and the Athens campus of the Medical College of Georgia. The department has a strong track record for teaching, research, and clinical service.
