The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invites applications for the position of Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. The Head is a senior member of the college administrative team and is expected to provide departmental leadership in a decentralized campus environment that emphasizes academic excellence and fulfillment of the Land Grant missions.  This is a full-time position with responsibility of providing visionary leadership, promoting excellence and advancement of veterinary medicine and a desire to lead a diverse, dynamic community of veterinarians.

 

Requirements include a DVM degree or its equivalent, advanced training and experience in research, and a proven commitment to providing excellent clinical service and enhancing veterinary medical education.  Diplomate status in an American or European clinical specialty college is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent). Candidates must be a distinguished veterinarian with a strong professional record compatible with appointment of full professor with tenure.  Successful candidates will have had a history of success in completing high quality research in a clinical department, and will be active in one of our core missions of research, teaching, or service. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skill and understanding of high quality clinical services, as well as leadership, organizational and administrative skills including fiscal responsibility and personnel management. The individual must have the ability to articulate vision to lead the development and growth of the department including consensus building and fostering teamwork in accomplishing department missions.

The individual will be responsible for the execution of departmental, college and university policies and shall direct departmental activities. The Head will lead the department and will maintain and foster high standards of scholarly activity. The Head will work closely with the Chief of Staff and Veterinary Teaching Hospital board. He/she will initiate and supervise the departmental recruiting/retention, mentoring, engagement, promotion, and tenure activities. He/she will have responsibility for the fiscal oversight of the department and the veterinary teaching hospital.
