generation 64 slice helical CT, Nicolet electrophysiological testing equipment (EMG, nerve conduction, and EEG), fluoroscopy, intraoperative C-arm, digital radiography, an ultrasonic aspirator and a Medtronic Stealth Trio stereotactic biopsy unit. The neurology
service provides medical and surgical neurology care for clients of the Teaching Hospital. The service is an active clinical service providing medical neurology and neurosurgical care for approximately 500-600 new referral cases per year. The majority of neurosurgery
is performed by the neurology service. After hours emergency neurosurgical case responsibilities are shared with the department’s surgery services. The neurology service enjoys collegial relations and the support of the other hospital services including oncology,
radiation therapy, surgery, anesthesia, and critical care.
The successful candidate will join a neurology
service
designed to have three full-time faculty members, three residents, and two dedicated technicians. Current collaborative research endeavors on campus involve UGA faculty in the Bioimaging Research Center, the
Department of Genetics, and the Regenerative Bioscience Center. Off-site research projects exist with the Neurosurgery Department at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and the Medical College of Georgia Regents University in Augusta. The neurology
service has a growing research program and looks forward to providing support for the research endeavors of the new faculty member as well as having the successful candidate join current collaborative efforts.
Teaching is priority of the neurology service. The current veterinary curriculum has approximately 40 contact hours for neurology with third-year students. Additional contact hours occur in the first year of the
curriculum. The neurology faculty is involved in a number of graduate and post-graduate courses, including continuing education courses for graduate veterinarians.
