Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery. The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure- or clinical-track faculty position in small animal soft tissue surgery at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and advanced training in small animal surgery. Board certification or having completed a residency training accepted by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or European College of Veterinary Surgeons is required. Documented research productivity or potential to develop a research program, and participate in collaborative research, is desired. Salary and entry rank will be commensurate with experience level. Appointment at the associate professor rank requires a minimum of five years of experience in a similar position; appointment at the rank of full professor requires attainment of tenure in a similar position at an academic institution.

The successful candidate will join a small animal soft tissue surgery service designed to have three full-time faculty members. The surgery section has 3-5 residents, with one or two assigned to soft tissue surgery at all times.  The soft tissue surgery service enjoys a diverse caseload with ongoing clinical research projects, extensive collaborations with other services, and opportunities for teaching students and house officers.

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the clinical faculty moved to a new 300,000 square foot state of the art facility in March 2015. The soft tissue surgery service enjoys access to vanguard technology in diagnostic imaging and spacious surgical suites. A dedicated interventional radiology suite is available.  Other equipment includes a full selection of rigid and flexible endoscopic equipment; microsurgical equipment and instrumentation; CO2, diode, and therapy lasers; and radiosurgery. Surgeons work closely with all services, especially oncology with treatment that includes a Varian linear accelerator (Trilogy) capable of dynamic IMRT and stereotactic radiation therapy. Faculty offices and over 5,400 square feet of shared research space are located on the floor above the new hospital.

The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery consists of 36 faculty members, four administrative staff members, seven research technicians, 23 clinical residents, and 10 clinical interns. The department has specialties with research, service, and teaching programs in anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and zoological medicine, and a community practice program. The department participates in the college-wide M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Members of the department also actively participate in collaborative research efforts with faculty members from other departments within the College and other colleges on campus, including the College of Pharmacy and the Athens campus of the Medical College of Georgia. The department has a strong track record for teaching, research, and clinical service.
