Faculty Position in Small Animal General or Oncologic Surgery at The Ohio State University
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical
track or tenure track faculty position in Small Animal General or Oncologic Surgery at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service and clinical teaching.
Specialty board certification (ACVS or ECVS) is preferred, but individuals who have completed surgery residency training will also be considered. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates. Fellowship training
in surgical oncology is desirable but not required. The appointee will join the section of Small Animal Surgery within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences The surgery service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center Hospital
for Companion Animals, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Our goal is to build upon current success, and to augment and advance the clinical, research and teaching components of the small animal surgery program.
Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 70% time in clinics, including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of
interns and residents. The Department and College are particularly interested in developing and advancing innovative surgical programs, including oncologic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology and microvascular surgery. Sponsored research
is not required for clinical track faculty, but clinical research, publications and other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track candidates will be given at least 50% off-clinic time to meet expectations
for developing an extramurally funded research program that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, operative practice labs, and clinical teaching of small animal surgery and related topics to professional students, interns,
residents, and graduate students. The appointee is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients, exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners, and the provision
of comprehensive and excellent patient care. Participation in continuing education events and outreach activities for the animal-owning public and private practitioners is expected. Like all faculty, it is expected that the appointee become involved with committee
service and curriculum development.
Faculty members are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College of Veterinary Medicine, and other units on the university
