Veterinary Anesthesiology - Assistant/Associate Professor
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University, invites applications for a Health Programs (HP) Appointment
System (clinical track) assistant/associate professor position in Anesthesiology. HP appointments are unique to Michigan State University’s Colleges of Human, Osteopathic, Veterinary Medicine, and Nursing and were created to enhance programs in clinical education,
patient care services, and clinical research. HP faculty appointed in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences devote at least 50% effort to clinical practice in both large and small animal and instruction in the Veterinary Medical Center and up to
30% effort to research and other scholarly activities. The position is a multi-year renewable appointment available at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank depending on qualifications and experience. A complete description of the Michigan State University

The candidate will join a distinguished veterinary anesthesiology program with 2 board certified anesthesiologists, 2 residents and 7 anesthesia techs. More information about

http://cvm.msu.edu/hospital/services/anesthesiology. The Veterinary Medical Center is a state of the art facility with a large and varied caseload. The Veterinary Hospital has a caseload of around 26,000 patients per year and provides outstanding veterinary
technician support and superb facilities including 15 operating rooms, a minor procedures area, a recently remodeled intensive care unit and in-house MRI, CT and interventional fluoroscopy suites. House officers, weekly journal clubs, case presentations and
seminars enhance the intellectual environment. MSU has two other medical schools on campus that provide ample opportunity for collaborative research. Research infrastructure is directly supported by the college-level pre-awards office that assists faculty
in preparing grants, and a Research and Teaching Technical Support group that provides a ready source of research technicians, and assists with general research needs. Opportunities for collaboration in research abound.
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree and be eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Michigan. Specialty board certification in anesthesiology is
preferred, but candidates who are board eligible will be considered. Applicants should also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with other clinicians and staff. The distribution of effort, professorial rank, and salary
will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, and is negotiable. The candidate’s responsibilities will include service to the large and small animal hospital, teaching anesthesiology to professional students, residents,
graduate students and interns. Participation in providing back-up to the emergency anesthesia service coverage will be required. The successful candidate will have up to 50% of their appointment as off-clinic time to meet expectations for independent and collaborative
research, grant writing, advising of graduate student research, pre-clinical teaching and publication in peer-reviewed journals. All faculty members are expected to be involved in professional outreach, committee service and curriculum development.
