Position will involve teaching of upper level DVM students through didactic and clinical courses, training of house-officers and research.
Clinical duties will be centered at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Health complex and our satellite facility, The Equine Health Center in Southern Pines, NC. Clinical responsibilities at the Equine Health Center include supervision of recipient herd for embryo transfer cases, breeding management and embryo transfer of client owned mares, as well as semen collection and semen cryopreservation of client owned stallions. Clinic responsibilities at the Veterinary Health Complex in Raleigh include canine breeding management and management of equine and canine reproductive diseases. The breakdown of species routinely examined at NCSU for theriogenology is 70% equine and 30% canine. The service further provides consulting on reproductive conditions of other species, including ruminants, camelids, and exotic species. Clinical teaching will involve teaching 4th year students, enrolled in the Theriogenology rotation.
Didactic teaching will involve lectures and laboratories in the Comparative Theriogenology course taught to all 3rd-year students, as well as species-specific advanced selective courses.
There are numerous research opportunities within the service and the chosen candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing research, as well as development of independent research projects. Current research focuses on infectious causes of pregnancy loss in the mare and bitch, with clinical trials and ongoing laboratory work underway in both species.
