Clinical Instructor Position in Small Animal Surgery at The Ohio State University

 

 

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a 1-year full-time position as clinical instructor in Small Animal Surgery. This is a clinical emphasis position and candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service, and clinical teaching. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty board certification (ACVS or ECVS) is preferred, but individuals who have completed residency training will also be considered. For the eligible candidate that has completed residency training, the schedule will provide 8 weeks of off-clinic time for study before the ACVS or ECVS certifying examination.

 

The appointee will join the Small Animal Surgery Service, located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center (www.vet.osu.edu/hospital), offering state-of-the-art care, including minimally invasive surgery equipment, microsurgery, total joint replacement, small animal physical rehabilitation, and kinematic gait analysis. The position is devoted primarily to patient care and clinical training of students, interns, and residents with full-time responsibilities for leading a surgical service for at least 40 weeks. The appointee is expected to foster a strong caseload through the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care, the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients, and exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners. Clinical responsibilities may include general, orthopedic and neurosurgery. Other teaching assignments will include junior operative practice laboratories and limited didactic teaching of core and elective student courses. Participation is expected in general Small Animal Surgery Service activities, such as meetings, resident seminars, and rounds. The clinical instructor will also have opportunities for involvement in the active implant biology, orthopedic oncology and organ transplantation research programs at the Veterinary Medical Center.
