Shelter Medicine

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor

 

The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant/Associate/Professor position in Shelter Medicine. Applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree and have relevant shelter medicine experience.  Preference will be given to candidates with formal training in shelter medicine and/or eligibility for board certification with the ABVP in the specialty of Shelter Medicine Practice.

 

The successful candidate will join a well-established K-State Shelter Medicine program in providing clinical learning opportunities to students in a variety of outreach settings.  The successful candidate’s primary role will be surgical and medical instruction to fourth year veterinary students at regional shelter facilities using a mobile surgical unit.  Commitment to providing excellent patient care, clinical training in surgical sterilization and non-surgical considerations associated with shelter practice is paramount.  Additional responsibilities will include supporting community outreach/access to care programming, providing “best practice” consultation services to regional facilities, and didactic teaching in shelter medicine and basic surgery. The successful candidate will also help oversee the associated internship program and support staff. Generation of scholarly communication on issues relevant to shelter medicine and/or clinical training will be encouraged.  

 

This is a 12 month, annually renewable position.  Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and qualifications.
