Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, MA invites applications for a
third full-time faculty position in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery to expand the current neurology team.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for an academic or clinical track position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level.
Anticipated percentage time allocations for the academic-track position are 60% clinical service and 40% academic time. Expectations for the academic-track position include didactic teaching and development of a research program in neurology or neurosurgery
that attracts external funding. The Boston region offers a vibrant biomedical community with collaborative research opportunities with other universities and private industry. Time allocations for a clinical-track position are 75% clinical service and 25%
academic time, with expectations for scholarly work and teaching.
Clinical service at Cummings School includes shared back up on-call responsibilities for the neurology residents who consult on emergency cases during
nights and weekends. On-call responsibilities for Neurosurgery is shared with Orthopedic Surgery. Competency in neurosurgery is preferred, but training and mentoring in this area can be provided. Residency training is an important component of this position
and three residents are currently enrolled in the program. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Cummings School has a progressive external consulting policy allowing for salary supplementation.
The neurology service is supported by outstanding radiology, critical care (24 hours), oncology, medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology, anesthesia and
orthopedic surgery services. Available state-of-the-art equipment includes a linear accelerator, Toshiba 16 slice helical CT, 3.0 Tesla MRI, fluoroscopy, scintigraphy, Codman ICP express and electrodiagnostic equipment for muscle and nerve testing including
EEG. The Clinical Trials Office supports numerous clinical and translational research projects (https://trials.vet.tufts.edu)
and there are opportunities for internal seed grants through the Department, School, and University.
Central Massachusetts has easy access to mountains and beaches; outdoor activities are plentiful. Public transportation is available on the Grafton
campus to downtown Boston, a city with many cultural events and a busy international airport. Public schools in Massachusetts are among the best in the nation. Professional sports, arts, and music, and medical care are top notch, and economic opportunity in
the region is excellent.
Qualifications
Requirements include a DVM or equivalent degree and completion of a formal residency in neurology. Preference will be given to individuals who are
ACVIM (Neurology) or ECVN board-certified.
