Clinical track position - Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Anesthesiology and Analgesia

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for a clinical-track faculty position in anesthesia and analgesia.  This position is an addition to the service and will join 4 other faculty in the department, along with 3 residents, and 14 anesthesia technicians.  We are seeking a candidate who is committed to excellent patient care and shares an enthusiastic dedication for teaching of our students, technicians, and residents.   Anticipated percentage allocations for this position are 75% clinical service and 25% academic time.

We manage a robust caseload consisting of primarily dogs, cats, and a variety of exotic species in the small animal hospital and equine, small camelids, and other small ruminants in the large animal hospital. There is also an occasional opportunity to anesthetize animals at surrounding zoos and animal parks.

We pride ourselves on working well with all sections of both hospitals.  The ideal candidate will have a sense of humor, work well as a member of a team, be an amazing multitasker, and not easily overwhelmed.  We work hard, but we have fun.  We also work together to try to allow for a balance between work and personal life.

The selected candidate should enjoy resident mentoring, and is expected to assist with boards review sessions, journal club, and other aspects of resident training including supervision of resident research projects.

There are many opportunities to develop collaborative research projects with faculty on this campus or with researchers on other Tufts campuses and within the New England medical community. All scholarly activity is valued in the school’s promotions process.

Requirements include a DVM degree or its equivalent and completion of an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) and/or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA) residency.   Rank and salary will be commensurate with training and experience, and resident mentoring experience will be highly valued.

The individual selected for this position will join the anesthesiology team at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals, our flagship teaching hospitals at the Cummings Veterinary Medical Center in North Grafton, MA. We aim to further enhance the strong reputation of the anesthesia team in the areas of clinical service, student teaching, resident training, and research.

This position is available August 1, 2019. An initial review of applications will begin immediately, but the search will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Applicants should submit a letter of intent outlining their interests, experience, and qualifications, a current curriculum vitae, and the names of three professional references via Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/65747 . Inquiries can be directed to the anesthesia section head, Dr. Amanda Abelson ([email protected]).
