Faculty Position in Small Animal Behavior Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, clinic-track faculty position at the
rank of Assistant Professor in Small Animal Behavioral Medicine (SABM). Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty board certification (DACVB) is preferred, but candidates who have completed small animal behavior residency training with the
intention of taking boards will also be considered. An advanced degree (MS/PhD) or equivalent research experience is desirable. The appointee will join the small animal behavior service, which has a support staff of two residents, one registered veterinary
technician and one behavior modification associate.
The SABM Service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment
including on-site computed tomography, a 3 Tesla MRI, nuclear medicine, an interventional radiology suite, 24-7 small animal emergency and critical care, and a dedicated SAB facility. The OSU VMC has a recently renovated SAB space which includes two state-of-the-art
exams rooms dedicated exclusively to Behavioral Medicine. The larger of the two rooms includes 200+ square feet of open space with comfortable and moveable seating for both clients and staff. A separate, quiet entrance with direct access to our Food Animal
parking lot allows for clients to park in a low-traffic area and to bring their pets into the building with few encounters with other clients and pets.
Teaching responsibilities will include didactic lectures, hands-on laboratories, and clinical teaching of small animal behavioral
medicine and related topics to students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The candidate is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload in behavioral medicine through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients and referring private
practitioners and the provision of high-quality patient care. Faculty are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development.
Our teaching facilities include a recently implemented Veterinary Clinical and Professional Skills Center, which is a state-of-the-art education and assessment resource. The center includes almost 9000 square feet of educational space, including a large
open lab, seven flexible skills labs and communications rooms, plus a devoted 3D printing space.
Candidates will be given up to 25% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing and continuing ongoing lectures and laboratories,
and scholarly activity related to small animal behavior and animal handling. Some collaborative research is expected within clinical track appointments.
Faculty are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College and across the University,
particularly those related to the College’s Signature Programs. Excellent collaborative opportunities are available in the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine within the College as well as other units across the University
