Job Summary

Position: Avian Diagnostician,
full-time (12-month), tenure or clinical track Assistant/Associate professor in the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) and the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Requirements: DVM (or equivalent
degree), board certification (or eligibility) by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP, ECVP), the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV), or the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM). If board eligible,
certification within 3 years of the date of hire will be required for continuation of appointment. A Ph.D. in a related field is required for a tenure track appointment. An advanced degree (MS/Ph.D.) in a related field is preferred for a clinical track appointment.
Demonstrated experience and ability in gross and microscopic pathology of avian species, diagnostic investigation, and diagnostic interpretation is required. Experience with, knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to a rigorous quality system is expected.
The successful candidate will have a service-oriented, client-focused diagnostic work ethic; excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; and demonstrated collegiality/ability to work with colleagues, co-workers, and staff.

Responsibilities:
o
Diagnostic Service – The successful candidate will serve as section leader for Avian Diagnostics. They will be expected to perform diagnostic
necropsies and histopathologic examinations on avian species, write associated reports, provide diagnostic and health-related support and advice to poultry/avian producers and owners (including pet birds). Relief for diagnostician at Heeke branch lab (Dubois,
IN) expected as needed.
o
Teaching – Candidate will serve
as coordinator of the avian diagnostic residency program as well as fulfill teaching assignments in the DVM, veterinary nursing and graduate programs.
o
Research – The successful candidate
will be expected to participate in collaborative research activities, continuing education/outreach activities to ADDL constituencies and presentation at local, regional and national meetings. Tenure-track candidate will be expected to develop and sustain
an independently funded research program in their area of interest.
