Qualifications:           

Applicants must have a DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and be ACVS/ECVS board certified. An advanced degree is preferred. Desired start date is summer 2019.

 

Responsibilities:        

The successful candidate will be based in the Equine Surgery and Large Animal Anesthesia Service. Responsibilities include clinic service, didactic and clinical teaching of students and house officers, scholarship/research, mentorship of graduate students, outreach, and governance. The full-service hospital for large animals provides primary, referral, and emergency care. Emergency duty is split between an emergency clinician and the clinical faculty.

 

Salary: Commensurate with training and experience.

Tenure-Track or Clinical Track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Equine Surgery. The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tennessee is seeking applications for a tenure track or clinical track equine surgery position at the assistant / associate / full professor rank. Requirements include a DVM / VMD degree or its equivalent and ACVS board certification. Candidates eligible (credentialed) to sit the ACVS certification examination or having ECVS certification may be considered. An advanced degree (PhD, MS) with expectation to establish a sustainable equine research program including regular per-reviewed publications is expected for tenure-track candidates. Clinic-track candidates are expected to contribute to the discovery of new knowledge and regularly publish scholarly work. Based on the appointment, responsibilities will include clinic service, didactic and clinical teaching of students and house officers, research or scholarly activities, outreach, and governance. The successful applicant will join other equine surgical faculty on the service. The full-service hospital for large animals provides primary, referral, and emergency care. Emergency duty is split between an emergency clinician and the clinical faculty. The hospital has a new, state-of-the-art and fully equipped surgical facility, including arthroscopy, laparoscopy, lasers, nuclear imaging, DR, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy c-arm, dynamic and stationary video endoscopy, thermography, and ultrasonography. The equine hospitals include lameness diagnostic facilities, indoor arena, and Equine Performance and Rehabilitation Center with underwater treadmill, cold salt-water therapy unit, vibration platform, farrier service, therapeutic lasers, and more.
